Meena Kumari passes away on 31st March, 1972 few days after the release of her best-known work, Pakeezah.

Prithviraj Kapoor, founder of India’s first film family, the Kapoors, and actor in India’s first ever talkie Alam Ara (1931) passes away on 29th May, 1972.

Famous playback singer Geeta Dutt (one of the three main singers of Golden Age i.e. Lata Mangeshkar, Shamshad Begum and Geeta Dutt), wife of actor-director Guru Dutt, dies on 20th July 1972.
