Nabeela

Nabeela was popular supporting actress of Pakistani cinema, mostly active in 60s and 70s. She is best remembered for her powerful performance as Tangawallah‘s wife in Badnaam (1966), a film based on Saadat Hassan Manto’s short story Jhumke. The film depicted the tragedy in the life of an upright Tangawallah (Allauddin) who refuses to be sullied by corruption that lurks at every turn of existence but life refuses to leave him alone. His wife (Nabeela), yearning for a pair of gold earrings, succumbs to a momentary weakness and is lost in the whirlpool. Nabeela gave such vivid performance that it added realism to the original story. One of the finest mujras sung by Suraiya Multanikar Bare bemurawwat hein yeh husn waaley was picturized on her. The film also won her the Nigar Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Other memorable films include Woh Kaun Thi (1966), Karishma (1968), Saiqa (1968), Babul da Wehra (1968), and Awaara (1968).
