Indian Postal Department has been releasing postal stamps for the last few years on legendary film personalities including singers, actors, music directors, producers, directors and so on… Here are some of the film & cinema related stamps released so far. (I will be concentrating mainly on Hindi Film Industry)

75 years of Indian Cinema

This stamp was issued on May 30th 1989 on the occasion of 75 years of Indian Cinema (1913-1988). Indian Cinema traces its origin back to Raja Harishchandra, which is regarded as the first indigenous full-length feature film of India released in 1913.

Stamp commemorating 100 years of Cinema

100 Years of Cinema

100 Years of Cinema

This stamp was issued on 11th January 1995 celebrating the 100 years of Cinema (1985 – 1995). It was on March 19th, 1895 that the first film footage was recorded using cinématographe by the Lumière brothers. The film showed workers leaving the Lumière factory.

Please note that this stamp is commemorating 100 years of Cinema… NOT 100 years of Indian Cinema (which would be around 2013).
