Remarks

Chirutha (Deepti Naval) was the daughter of a poor alcoholic father, Kali Parayan, whom he wanted to marry to earn money. A hardworking young man, Koran, agrees to marry Chirutha on Kali Parayan's terms. Koran starts working as a servant in the house of Thaman, the landlord of Kuttanad village, and takes out a loan to marry Chirutha. After marriage, Koran works hard day and night, producing a bountiful harvest in Thaman's fields. However, when Thaman asks for food for himself, he is beaten. Koran's father dies of hunger. Thaman refuses to even allow Koran's father's body to be cremated on his land. Koran then takes up a torch and calls for revolution, with Chirutha joining him, and the film ends. The film, devoid of songs, has a total running time of 120 minutes, but the foreign version intended for international release is only 90 minutes long.
