Koffee with Karan

It was the most talked about show when it was first telecast and soon it became a rage. ‘Koffee With Karan’ is known for celebrity host Karan Johar’s unique style of interviewing the biggest Bollywood stars and making them open up like never before. Chatting, quizzing and quite a bit of gossiping by the celebs have kept the viewers glued to the show for two seasons now. Well, as ‘Koffee With Karan’ is launching its third season, we decided to quiz the host Karan Johar himself. Read on to see how Karan handles the pressure of the Rapidfire round.

We’ve had Aishwarya (Bachchan) and Abhishek, Ranbir (Kapoor) and Imran (Khan) and Deepika (Padukone) with Sonam (Kapoor). We’ve also shot a directors’ special.

Describe Ram Gopal Varma in one word?

Not applicable.

If you dreamt that you had become Ram Gopal Varma, what would you do?

Wake up immediately…have a better dream, for sure.

Will you invite Ram Gopal Varma on the show?

I would love to have him on the show.

Who’s the Khan for all seasons – Salman (Khan), Shahrukh (Khan) or Aamir (Khan)?

Do I even need to answer that? Shahrukh, of course.

What’s the one thing you tell your guests before the interview?

Yeh ek paagal show hai. Just have fun.

What secrets have been revealed in the third season of Koffee with Karan?

Lots of secrets. In fact, we’ve shot four episodes till now and already there have been so many revelations that I am scared that if my mom watches the show, she’ll slap me. It’s just too saucy!

How about Aditya Chopra?

(Jokingly) Aditya Chopra doesn’t exist. He’s just a figment of Yash Chopra’s imagination.

Who do you dream of interviewing?

Rajinikanth. I would absolutely love to have him on the show.

What about Aamir Khan? Is he going to feature in the show?

It would be an honour to interview him. He’s positioned himself as one of the leading actors and filmmakers in Bollywood. I’ve discussed it with Aamir and his wife Kiran. She’s made a fabulous film. Both have agreed conceptually.

And Shahrukh? What are the plans for him?

Shahrukh will feature in the final episode of the season. He might turn the tables on me. It’s difficult to match him in wit and conversation.

We Are Family (2010)

We Are Family has had a good opening and is turning out to be yet another decent success of this season. How far it eventually would go would be known next week but as of now, this Karan Johar production is certainly on safe grounds. Before the release of the film, a few were apprehensive that due to mighty presence of Kajol and Kareena, Arjun could perhaps be sidelined. However, now that the film has released, audience can see that Arjun actually had a good role to play in the film’s narrative.

“Well, Arjun always had a place of his own in We Are Family,” says Karan who stood behind his lead actor right through the making of the film and release. “During the writing process itself, it was made sure that Arjun had a meaty part. He was never supposed to be a bystander with two females around him. You can see for yourself the kind of wonderful moments that he shares not just with the two women but also his three kids,” adds the film maker.

When it comes to Arjun Rampal, the first image that comes to mind is a handsome personality with an attitude of his own. However, in We Are Family, one sees him getting into some real acting zone once again after Raajneeti. For Karan, it must have been one tough decision to pick him up for the role, isn’t it?

“In fact the reason behind roping him in for the role was that he is a father in real life and hence can understand the sentiments just perfectly right”, reasons Karan, “His real life personality suited the film since he could get an element of that into the film. Full credit to Arjun for holding it all together despite the presence of Kajol and Kareena! In the past, whether it is Raajneeti, Rock On or Om Shanti Om, he has played an edgy character but this is for the time that he has played a quintessential family man. He has done it all brilliantly and lived up to the expectations.” – Sampurn Wire
